DVD Review: Peanuts Holiday Collection: Deluxe Edition
DVD Talk has a review of "The Peanuts Holiday Collection: Deluxe Edition (It's The Great Pumpkin / A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving / A Charlie Brown Christmas)"
I'm torn about picking up this release myself. It sounds great with new stuff I'd love to see but I have multiple versions of all of these already. I'm facing the same dilemma on the new "A Christmas Story Collector's Editions".

Regular readers will be very familar with the amazing holiday sharity supplied each season by Lee Hartsfeld at his blog Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else. Well, Christmas isn't the only holiday he's got a stash of cool records for that he's ready and willing to share...
From our Halloween/Horror companion blog Monster Rally...
From our Halloween/Horror companion blog Monster Rally...
Lee at Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else has posted the first sharity of the Halloween season!
Lee says..."...And, now, we have twelve terrific Halloween tracks to get spooked out over (if the stock market horrors of the past two days aren't enough). Half are repeats, and half are new to the blog. A few really odd ones, including Cliff (Delta Rhythm Boys) Holland's Tops label cover of The Thing (which, like many early Tops sides, sounds really bad), the Capitol University Cappette's Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte, and Lalo (Mission: Impossible) Schifrin's The Hautning, a 1963 instrumental inspired by the Robert Wise movie. Download with caution, for the sanity you lose may be your own!! Buwa-ha-haaaa!!"...and, great news, this is only Part 1 !!
Hop on yer broom and let MY(P)WHAE help you get in the Halloween spirit!

Christmas DVD: My Christmas Soldier
My Christmas Soldier
Starring: Mac Powell, Aidan Rogers Director: Owen Smith Rated G
Starring: Mac Powell, Aidan Rogers Director: Owen Smith Rated G
A small Georgia town struggles with the rationing and sacrifices of America at war. Christmas is no exception as 11-year-old Gordy (Aidan Rogers) and his sister Priscilla (Emily Jordan) sense a fear in the train station where they await their father's homecoming. Propaganda posters and tense audlt talk drive home the evil of the enemy.
When a train loaded with German prisoners arrives in the station, Gordy's curiosity is stronger than his fear. He dares to approach the prison train and makes contact with a young German soldier named Hans (Silvio Wolf Busch). Through the courage to trust and the song "Silent Night", friends and foes learn the true meaning of Peace on Earth, Goodwill Towards Men, and hearts are forever changed.

Whoopi Goldberg and a couple of Sopranos join Muppets Christmas Special
According to The Hollywood Reporter and Ain't it Cool News Whoopie G., along with Tony Sirico and Steve Schirripa of The Sopranos and the fine English actor Richard Griffiths (The History Boys, Harry Potter) have joined the cast of "Letters to Santa -- A Muppets Christmas."
That, to me at least, with the exception of the fine Mr. Griffiths, is the bad news about this holiday offering. The very good news is that Paul Williams is back on board with to provide the Muppets Music.
Hopefully I'm wrong but, this cast reminds me of the fairly awful, and far too adult, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. We'll see...

Sunday Morning Gospel at Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else
While most of what Lee at Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else shares each week in his Sunday Morning Gospel series doesn't necessarily qualify as "official" Christmas music, it is certainly of great interest for anyone interested in the history of recorded inspirational music of the last century. I would think there would be a pretty decent sized overlap between serious lovers of Christmas music and those who delight in the broader genre of Christian music. If you fall into that particular demographic you owe it to yourself to check out Lee's Sunday morning posts.
In fact you should be heading over to Music You (Possibly) Won't Hear Anyplace Else on a fairly regular basis anyway for all his amazing vintage shares, facinating articles, and thought provoking commentary!
