Do you hear? Quick listening notes with Aled Jones, Alan Silvestri, Alan Moorhouse, Alex Houston and Elmer, Allison Crowe, Aly and AJ and more...

More trawling through my music collection looking for tunes to add to 2020's playlists.

Aled Jones - Aled’s Christmas Gift

2010 release from Welsh singer whose chart career began at age 15 with his version of “Walking in the Air”. Though no longer a choirboy Jones's voice is still lovely and this is a terrific collection of choral-crossover Christmas tunes. Medium Rotation.

Aled Jones - The Christmas Album

Next up was an earlier Christmas offering from Jones. 2004’s A Christmas album, charted in the UK and features some more interesting arrangements and more nuanced vocals. Quite Good. Medium rotation.

Alan Silvestri -  Disney's A Christmas Carol (OST)

I likely won’t add it since, being a soundtrack, there are numerous mood shifts and motifs that work great during a film but not s much while listening at home or in the car (or wherever).

Alan Moorhouse - Christmas Party

More music meant to be used for background flavor, this time Library music from master of the form Alan Moorhouse. Very groovy. Heavy rotation.

Alex Houston and Elmer - Here Comes Peter Cotton Claus

Novelty act. The title track is okay in its goofy way and I have it a playlist with like tunes. The rest of the album is about what you’d expect from a country ventriloquist act with a nasally out of tune singer. It has a certain charm but is hard to recommend.

Alfred Hause - Christmas Come Together

Nice collection of festive easy listing tracks. Medium Rotation.

Alice Gomez - Christmas on the Mesa

Like being stuck waiting for your wife in a new age gift shop or spa. A little pan flute goes a long way and I’ve now had my fill for the year. Archived.

Alistair Crosbie - in tempest, storm and wind

Sort of home made low-fi wyrd folk something. At least it seems sincere but nothing that I need to revisit. Archived.

Allie Alligator & Friends - Christmas at Allie's

Kid’s album from the 90’s. Archived.

Allison Crowe - Tidings (traditional songs)

Nice mini-album of acoustic (piano and voice) renditions of half a dozen holiday standards. Archived due to my having an overabundance of this genre already in my library.

Altamiro Carrilho - Natal

I’m not sure what genre this is. It’s Brazilian, from the fifties,  the artist id a flutist and there;-’s copious amounts of accordion and tuba. The version of White Christmas sounds like a polka brass band doing a cover of a dixie land jazz tune. It’s interesting and certainly festive in its way. I’ll probably cherry pick a couple of tunes for light rotation.

Aly & AJ - Acoustic Hearts of Winter

The only reason I have this is that my daughter was a fan when she was a tween. For what it is it isn’t awful. Archived.

Amanda McBroom & BJ Ward - The Christmas Witch

More kid’s stuff. Archived.
