Yule Logged: A Christmas Movie Christmas, Christmas Festival of Ice, A Christmas Detour, Sleigh Bells Ring, Anything But Christmas

A Christmas Movie Christmas (2019)

A terrific idea, fairly charming, nor perfect but probably the best new Christmas TV flick I’ve seen so far. (Update: Disney's Noelle just claimed the top spot, for the moment at least)

Is it Hallmark? Nope. Up.

Does it look like Christmas? Yep

Does it sound like Christmas? Yep

Does it feel like Christmas? Yep

Did it make me cry? No

Laugh?  A few times

Did I finish it? Yup

Is it a good movie? It’s okay

Is it a good Christmas Movie?  Yeah, it was pretty good. Not as good as it could have been but still…

Christmas Festival of Ice (2017)

Set in the sexually charged, high stakes world of small-town Ice Sculpture competitions. This film is a searing indictment of the tragic lack of municipal funding for North America’s finest and most noble artistic endeavor! Christmas Festival of Ice will freeze your soul...and melt your heart.

A Christmas Detour (2015)

More like a Christmas Snore, amirite? Yeah, this did nothing for me and I’m a big Candace Cameron Bure fan.

Sleigh Bells Ring (2016)

A tribute to the bureaucratic heroes of Christmas!

If generic hard-working single mom can pull off a last-minute Christmas parade she has a shot at becoming City Manager! Who knew local governance was so magical and romantic? Makes a nice change from canceling parades and removing nativity scenes.

Anyway, as such things go this was pretty good.

Anything But Christmas (2012)

Widows’ boyfriend hates Christmas. And she just discovers this on November 30th. How is this not the first question you ask on date one?

Pretty good in spite of, or maybe because of, the odd assemblage of characters, including an English upper-class twit with a Christmas tree plantation on his estate., a meddling mother in law, an obnoxious sister, a nympho ex-girlfriend, and Christoper Lloyd as a bitter, racist old man.

Definitely not your average everyday Hallmark Christmas movie. The tonal shifts don’t always work and I never warmed to any of the players enough to root for them to overcome their various obstacles and drama.

Still well above average quality-wise in both script and performances.
